The occupants very much wanted to have an interior design for their living-room. In the design brief, a modernization and the wish to retain both the tiled floor and the big wooden sideboard were included. The plan IJzersterk Interior Design came up with contained a wallpaper for the reading alcove, new easy chairs for the alcove, a carpet and furniture such as a new audio cupboard and a dining-table and chairs. The existing sideboard was painted white to fit in with the modern atmosphere.
The niche in which the occupants were often reading had to be modernized. The wall paper which looks like silk, was chosen as an eye-catcher and to supply this part with its own identity. You sit in the living room, but still in a separate part.
The occupant approached IJzersterk with the request to completely decorate an empty apartment, including a colour scheme and lighting. It had to be fit for habitation within four weeks! Because the occupant did not have any furniture yet, all interior directions were open. He had already thought well about the atmosphere and style of the apartment himself and he wanted to add a clear wow factor. Since it was completely renovated and there were no original parts present anymore, IJzersterk interiordesign chose to look for a marble mantelpiece. This fits in exactly with the 1930s atmosphere and gives the room a clear focal point.
The orange wall in the living room gives depth and warmth to the space. By not painting the entire wall, you can provide enough light and space while getting a colour effect at the same time. The vintage cupboard was chosen by IJzersterk and painted to give the space more character. This is used as a wardrobe.
The bedroom is not big: a bed and a wardrobe are all that could be fitted. That is the reason why beautiful materials (walnut bed and wardrobe) and strong colours (turquoise wall and curtains with two colours) were chosen.
In this way, you can even give a clear character to a small space.

The height of the apartment was used by placing a book shelf above the front door along the wall. This way, the occupant can store many books while it does not cost any floor area.
